Greetings everyone, this is Mitch. I'll be hosting this week. I've decided to go with a 'nostalgia' theme this week. I want you to post photos that are a 'reminder of a bygone age'. By that I  don't mean ancient history such as castles, I mean objects or scenes that are a reminder of the last century, preferably between 1920 and 1970, things that maybe remind us of our own early years. 

1) A reminder of the golden age of rail travel, when steam trains were king. 

2) In the days before mobile phones, if you were a member of the AA (Automobile Association), you could call for help from one of their dedicated phone boxes.

3) In the 'good old days', fruit and veg was moved around in hand-carts such as this.

4) The iconic British post-box. This is an early version, probably from the 1940's.

Many thanks to Pat for hosting this week. A great theme, with lots of possibilities to see odd and strange things!! I have lots of photos of strange things, so it took me a while to choose which ones to use. 

1) I have no idea what this strange 'fruit' is. I saw it on a tree at Upton Castle Gardens, Pembrokeshire, Wales.

2) I saw this strange contraption at the edge of a field in the countryside near where I live. I would love to know what it was used for!!

3) This sculpture of a horse made entirely of driftwood looked rather strange to me at first, but the more I looked at it, the more I liked it!!

4) The underside of a fungus. Always kind of strange-looking!!

Why is the bench there? I find it a little strange.

Pitcher plant flowers in a Canadian fen. The leaves are fused in the shape of a pitcher and trap insects.

Pat here from her corner of the world in Switzerland. As always I am posting on Friday as I do not have the time on Saturday morning.

The theme for next week is "Strange" as I am sure we all have strange photos somewhere in our archives, perhaps those we have been longing to show somewhere, but just did not fit. Interpret the theme according to your choice.

When you live behind scaffolding in a builder's world you get all sorts of strange angles and photos.I happened to look up on the porch and saw there two builders looking down at me wondering probably what I was doing with a camera in my hand. Of course, the golden opportunity for a shot One of the builders was even playing with a flame throwing tool.

Another two heads, but this time in the river.

I saw this guy at the entrance to a company in the village. I am sure he wanted to say welcome.

This was one of those mirrors they put on the road so that you can see if anything is approaching from a side turning, but they make interesting photos.

I had to delve in my archives here as I no longer get out very much and this year is not such a garden year being surrounded by scaffolding and builders. However, I did have a little success last year and grew gourd seeds, although I only had one success and here it is hanging and waiting for harvest. However, it was not an eatable gourd, but a so-called decorative gourd.

These are known as Cornelian Cherries and we have two trees growing in the meadow opposite our garden. They are apparently edible, although I have never tried one and according to Wikipedia are quite tart in taste. They are a member of the dogwood family.

And what the Belgian Painter René Margritte can do with his painting "The Son of Man", I can do with the neighbour's cat and one of my apples. I wanted to post a link to the painting here but Blogger is not so refined in its ways as other web hosters.

And finally seen in Dagenham Heathway on a visit to my dad in 2014.
