Thank you, Mitch, for choosing my photograph of the Bean in Chicago as the banner picture. I'm really honored.
"Red" is a great and challenging theme. My husband and I were talking about why red might be so rare especially in the temperate climes. Florida has red all over the place but, except for cardinals, we rarely see true red up north in nature, as you said, at least not in birds or flowers.
One of our Michigan landmarks is this lighthouse known as "Big Red".
At Roma Bakery in Lansing, one can find pastries with red grapes, cherries and strawberries.
This, of course, is Florida. I have no idea what the flower is named, but bees like it.
Three excellent shots on Mitch's theme, Benni! Lovely lighthouse and very different from what I'm used to see. If I saw that pastry, I'm sure I would indulge myself in one. Love all the ingredients and the composition is beautiful. We call it bottle cleaner flower but Mitch will know it for sure. I've given a second look at all the three and though I love all of them, I would say the first is my favourite...
ReplyDeleteThank you, Belita, I ate the pastry right after the shot. I can see why the flower might be called bottle cleaner flower. Holland, Michigan, where the lighthouse is, is a special place for me so I am glad you like the photo.
DeleteGood to see your landmark, nice shot of that Big Red light house.
ReplyDeleteSecond one is my favorite type of afternoon dessert. :)
I had seen that flower in San Diego too, either do I know its name. they are very pretty.
Thank you, Sophie, I tried googling red flower Florida and got a large number of hits. I try not to go to Roma too often; their selection is wonderful and authentic Italian. But a bit fattening. ;)
DeleteBeautiful shot of the lighthouse.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely delicious.
"We're having a really bad hair day."
Thank you, Anders. Whimsical and witty!! : )
Deletehi benni, I'm back home. three nice shots and my fav is "macedonia di frutta" as we call fruit salad in Italy
ReplyDeleteGrazie. Thank you for telling me the name of the pastry which is my favorite dessert.
DeleteHi Benni !! Three wonderful shots for the theme. 'Big Red' lighthouse looks interesting. Is it still operational? Would be good to have a look inside. That's a delicious-looking pastry in the second shot!! It's making my mouth water!! Love the bright red plant in the third shot. It looks like one of the varieties of Bottlebrush, of the genus Callistemon.
ReplyDeleteMany thanks! "Big Red" is indeed still operational. Belita was right on your knowing the name of the flower. Bottlebrush, I will remember.
DeleteAll Beautiful captures Benni I can not pick a favourite very nice work my friend;)
ReplyDeleteVery kind of you, Baz. Thanks.
Deletethre wonderfuly photos. I feel hungry seeing the second, you have really captured the essence of that fruit salad. I have never seen a bottle brush flower but a very good photo sujet.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Pat. I find European pastries very delicious and they are rare in my area.
DeleteThe lighthouse really stands out! I don't think I have ever seen a red one before. The fruit salad looks yummy. The flower does look like a bottlebrush, great close up!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Danette. It does look like a bottlebrush, doesn't it? I should do some research on the light house which has been there since at least 1968 and probably much before.
DeleteHi Benni! Congratulations on the banner shot - way cool!
ReplyDeleteThat's an unusually shaped light house. I love it!
The fruit/pastry looks scrumptious! Beautiful photo!
Very pretty flower!
Thank you, Debby. I did have fun that day with the pastry, trying different shots, then eating it.
DeleteHi Benni, congratulations on the banner photo. You have three great photos for this theme. There are some lighthouses on Long Island Sound that are like the one on Lake Michigan. Beautiful photo of the pastry. That's an interesting flower. I don't know the names of many flowers.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Robert. Interesting to know there are lighthouses like that on Long Island Sound. I hope they survived the hurricane. I know the names of some flowers, thanks to a book I bought as a kid. But it sure didn't have bottlebrush flowers in it.
