Picture This #230 ~ People

Hi everyone!! This is Mitch, and I'll be your (slightly hungover) host for this week!! Sorry I'm posting a little late this week. Had to think of a theme on the spur of the moment.

My theme this week is PEOPLE. I'm not setting any particular rules for this one.....they can be candid or they can be posed. They can be colour or they can be B&W. They can be fun or they can be serious.

Mine are all B&W candids, as that's how I prefer to photograph people:

1) This one always makes me smile. He had fallen asleep at the wheel of his car. Fortunately he was stationary in a car park at the time!!

2) I'm sure these ladies were sharing all the latest gossip!!

3) I call this shot 'Contemplation' The man is sitting on a bench overlooking Saundersfoot Harbour. The bench is on a steeply sloping path, so for fun I tilted the camera in the opposite direction, so that the bench and the harbour appear to tilt in opposite directions.

  3. Love all three photos. I did not know you were a paparazzi. Love the bloke in the first one caught unawares. The second could be me in 5-10 years and the third is a very good capture.

    1. Thanks Pat :-)) Have to say, the guy in the first shot doesn't look comfortable at all. I would have thought tilting his seat back would have been better.

  4. This is a great theme. Your top picture make me smile, too. We see this sometimes in Florida, grandpa or granny asleep in the car while mom and the kids are hosing off the sand. We always knock on the windows to make sure they don't cook. And, not to repeat myself, but the second picture is also a splendid capture of a common Florida theme. I like her little dog cane. A clever perspective on the bottom, I found myself tilting my head this way and that to get perspective.

    1. Thanks Benni :-)) Yes, I had fun with that third shot. Playing with perspective can give results that can confuse the human eye, something I love trying to do!!.

  7. The theme you already know I like it....the three photos are fantastic.. Each character might have a very interesting story to tell and which I would love to learn, not for the sake of gossiping but for the different episodes each one might be broken into...

  8. You chose a great theme. I enjoyed these shots you entered. I wondered if the man in the car is sleeping or intent on doing something. The best image is the second with the women. They were so deep in conversation that they probably didn't notice you were present. You caught the expression of the woman turned in your direction. Contemplation is an interesting photo. You have the subject with his back towards the viewer which lends to the title.

    1. Thanks Robert :-)) The man in the first shot was definately sleeping. I watched him for some time and he didn't move at all. Eventually he opened his eyes and sat up with that 'just woke up and not sure where I am' look on his face!!

  9. Hi Mitch! I wasn't much of a people person(as far as photographs are concerned) before I came to NY. In GA it was all about nature. Now, because of my locale and the fact that I have less mobility, I shoot more pics of people than anything else. Your theme is a great chance to show case some of these pics.

Your first shot of the guy asleep in the car is fascinating, So much going on in that photo. Is he perhaps waiting for his wife while she shops? I see he has a dree shirt slung over the other seat so that he doesn't wrinkle it, which indicates he's meeting someone after the nap. He has what looks like rocks on his dashboard. A collector? I'd like to wake him up and ask him!

The elderly ladies look like they might be sisters, or bff's! I love the cane in the woman's hand. The hand of an animal lover... perhaps she had some one carve the likeness of a much beloved canine.

Your "Contemplation" is wonderful. What a view he has from that bench! I see he has a cane also. This must be a busy harbor. I see lots of boats. I'd love to sit and watch the boats coma and go, too.

    Three great shots!
