Picture This #244 ~ Birds

Hi everyone, this is Mitch, and I'll be your host for this week. It seems Flickr have changed everything yet again!! Can't those bozos leave well enough alone?? See below my photos for an update on HTML code.

This week's theme is:

~BIRDS~

There are so many different types of bird, small birds, large birds, water birds, flightless birds, singing birds, plain birds, colourful birds. I'm sure you all have some birds shots, so let's see your best ones!! Here are mine:

1) Sid The Seagull. Probably my most well-known bird shot, it was one of the first good bird shots I took with my first digital camera.
Keepin' Watch B&W

2) Male Chaffinch
Male Chaffinch 8

3) Rhea. A flightless South American bird similar to an Emu or Ostrich. This one was having a nap when I photographed it.

4) Ringed Teal. A mating pair at the water's edge.

IMPORTANT INFO RE FLICKR & HTML CODES

It seems that once again Flickr have changed everything, and not for the better. When you now select a photo you want to use and click on it, it opens in it's own window, as always, but everything in the window looks different. You will see an area to the right of the photo with lots of little symbols. The symbol for the sharing codes is still the little box with an arrow coming out of it, but when you click it, you'll see some differences. First of all, it looks like the default size of the photo (as least on mine) has been set to 500 x 375, so you'll have to change it to 640 x 480 EVERY TIME!! (it defaults back to the smaller size as soon as you close the box). ALSO, the codes are defaulted to I-Frames, so you will also need to look at the two little buttons marked 'EMBED' and 'HTML'. Flickr have set the default to 'EMBED', you will have to change it to 'HTML' to get the correct code. And you will have to do it EVERY SINGLE FRIGGIN' TIME!! Because as soon as you close the box, it defaults back to 'EMBED'. I hope this helps!!Any problems, msg me on FB or e-mail me and I'll try to help. Good luck!!

  2. I noticed the Flicr thingie this morning, but was easy to work out, I had my photos for Flower Power all ready. Lucky you were still sleeping so could slip in under the door before closing. The buttons were easy recognisable, sorry for not warning you, assumed you all knew already as I was so late as per usual.

  5. Hi Mitch!! Great theme! I only have 300-400 bird shots from this winter in Florida but I will have a blast picking the best ones. A good opportunity to look at some overlooked shots. Thanks for the Flickr warning, what makes me think you are disgruntled at them? :-) Your teal are wonderful as are all your shots; Sid is a little scary. Does he know Alfred Hitchcock or have a role in the classic "The Birds"?

My pics later tonight when internet better.

    1. Thanks Benni :-)) I knew you'd like this theme!! Yes, I was rather disgruntled at Flickr. it's not the technical aspect for me, I worked it all out in about a minute, but I know that some folks aren't up on that kind of thing, so every time Flickr makes changes, I have to prepare a new crib-sheet to help out anyone who doesn't know about the changes.

  8. THey do seem to keep messing with things. Seems like every couple of weeks I am having to learn it all over again. Sorry too Mitch, I didn't up the size from the default. I will change it from now on. Great choice on themes. The birds have been showing up all around the place so should be able to come up with a few good shots for this week. I will get them in before the end. LOL I am very happy to see you like my hummer shot. Thanks

    1. Yeah, Flickr seem to change things every couple of weeks, and don't give any kind of proper warning to members. I kinda guessed you'd like the theme, you always seem to have some great bird shots!!

  9. Hi Mitch! Your bird photos never upset whoever looks at them... No matter I have seen the top one..it's so beautiful that I like to see it again... Nice colours of that chaffinch ... The Rhea looks very relaxed in his moments of rest... love the bottom shot, my favourite...

  10. I love that shot of Sid the Seagull. So appropriate that you should give him/it a name. The thing that I like most about this photo is that Sid looks larger than life.

Your Chaffinch is beautiful. A wonderful shot.

The sleeping Rhea looks so peaceful...like nothing could ruffle her feathers! I love her silvery color. Just beautiful!!!

The Ringed Teal is my favorite. They look like they are all dressed up and ready to go out dancing.

    1. Thanks Debby :-))

I had another shot of a Rhea from the same day that I really like, too. It was standing very still, staring into the distance. I was able to zoom right in on it's face and get a really good close-up.
