Picture This #201 ~ Water Related

Many thanks to Danette for hosting this week's challenge, you've chosen a great theme with lots of possibilities!! Congratulations to Sophie for her Photo Of The Week, I love the mellow colours and the effects.

Here are my water-related photos:

1) Reedflections. Ripples in the water at the base of these reeds created an interesting abstract reflection.

2) Snowmelt Falls. This waterfall at Zion National Park, Utah, only flows when snow melts and runs off the tops of the highest parts of the canyon. Because the water has to seep through different layers of rock, it can be weeks between the snow melting and the waterfall starting to run.

3) Backlit Fountain. Taken at Lake Havasu, Arizona. This was a more difficult shot to get than you'd think. The sun was high in the sky, so to get it behind the fountain, I had to get the camera almost down on the ground. Had to take a couple of practice shots to get the angle right. I was pleased with the end result, particularly as I managed to avoid any lens-flare from the strong sunlight.

  2. lol I was think you were laying on the ground on the third shot when I first saw it...you did do an amazing job considering that Arizona sun!

The falls are magnificent, what a memorable place to be...awesome capture.

The reeds are fantastic...one can tell you like to have fun and enjoy life just by looking at your photos!

    1. Thanks Danette :-)) I wasn't actually lying on the ground for that fountain shot, might have been easier if'n I had!! LOL.

For me, photographing nature is one of the best things in life :-))

  3. I just love the first one, looks like a modern painting, such great reflections. The snow melt fall is a very good shot. Caught it just at the right moment, I can imagine the noise as the water pummlled to the ground. You have caught the light well on the third one, looks like one of those photos when I take them that I need help to stand up again.

    1. Thanks Pat :-)) You'd be amazed how quiet that waterfall was!! Because it has a very wide dispersal area at the bottom, it wasn't as loud as you'd think.

  6. The reed picture - I am sure I have seen it before - is just absolutely marvelous. I could look at it all day. Lovely of the water fall and the water shooting up. The last would indeed be very difficult as I know from trying to get pictures of waves and spray at midday.

    1. Thanks Benni :-)) Yes, you've probably seen the reed reflection shot before, I know I've used it once for Picture Perfect, and I've also posted it on my own page as part of the set it was from.

That last shot was difficult to get, but once I get an idea for a shot in my head, I rarely give up til I get it!! LOL.

  12. Mitch, I love the ripples in the first image. The reflection of the reeds forms an interesting pattern. The image of the water fall at Zion is done well. You placed yourself close to it looking up. I like that. The fountain at Havasu is refreshing. Most have felt good to be close to it.
