Picture This 191 ~ My Favorite Things

I chose a treat as one of my favorite things. These pastries are called zeppoles and only are baked this time of year. They are made to celebrate the feast day of Saint Joseph, which is on March 19th. I grouped these desserts with a demitasse and a coffee maker. My attempt here was to suggest a cafe setting. Zeppoles are so rich and heavy that if you can eat only half it fills you. The filling can be vanilla, chocolate, and ricotta cheese.
My other favorite thing is my Canon Rebel. I'm sure all of us consider our cameras  important.

  1. Hi Robert!! Good to see you taking part. Wasn't too sure if you'd have time, given your flooding problems.

Those zeppole pastries look delicious!! I think I'd prefer the ones with vanilla filling.

Nice camera, a favourite amongst Canon users. I am a dedicated Olympus user myself.

    1. Thanks Mitch. We're back to normal, as normal as things come our way. The zeppoles with the vanilla filling are my favorite too. I had a couple of other photos to consider for this theme. This is what I chose.

  2. I hadn't expected to see any contributions from you, Robert, after having read your latest blog. Great! You introduce something special, sweet for sure, yet a temptation, I presume. I have already heard about those sweets but thought they were originally from Greece. As to your camera, well, I've no doubt it's a good one, though, like Mitch, I'm faithful to Olympus.

    1. I didn't want to let some things pass by. Once things started to return to normality, I wanted to keep up with the photo challenge. I'm so glad that you enjoyed the photo of the zeppoles. That's interesting that the origin of this dessert may be from Greece. The ancient Greeks colonized southern Italy and I don't doubt that their influence came down through the centuries. Thanks.

    2. I was wondering if it might not be something like a Danish Pastry, the Zeppolas, but Wikipedia say it is a deep fried pastry ball, so I tried making them, they came out very very nice. I saw some at the Italian delicatessen too, but they tasted very greasy.

always one for trying something new. Thank you.

  4. I think I could feel very much at home with a plate of zeppoles on the table. A camera is part of our lives - I have a Nikon, but somewhere you have to make the choice.

Floods are not a pleasant thing. Been there and done that. Our hobby room in the cellar was flooded out a couple of years ago. We had two weeks pumping with a monster octopus similar pump as it seems the room was floating on a small lake under the concrete. Not pleasant. We only had three centimeters of water above the carpet, but it was what was below that was bad.

    1. Pat, I am glad that you enjoyed viewing the photo of the zeppoles. I chose the camera because it is an important part of our lives. I belong to a camera club and there's friendly jesting between Canon owners and Nikon owners. They're both good cameras. So are the Olympus. It all comes down to the photographer.
The flood situation is over, thank goodness. We could have had a replica of Venice in our furnished room. It's another bump in the road. Thanks again.

  5. Hello Robert, sorry to hear of your flooding problems. Lucky we live far from any water ways and not on a hill, so not one of our fears, can only imagine the inconvenience that would cause. A dear friend gets flooded every summer as she lives on a hill, so all water just runs off and into her property. Now she just opens the back door and the front door and let it get on with it. LOL Do pray you get sorted out quickly

I have not had breakfast yet, so is now drooling over your pastries. I think if I may, can I have the one with Ricotta Cheese, I prefer savoury to sweet and coffee with one sugar, brown please and a dash of milk. Thank you. That is lovely.

Another Canon Fan! Love it! A bit of a Rebel are you? *smile*

Thank you for participating, always nice to see you.

    1. Too bad they don't have these desserts in South Africa. You do know what ricotta cheese tastes like so you would like the ones with that filling. They are sweetened though.
Thanks for your concern about our flooding problem. We don't live near any streams. There must be some underground springs we don't know about.
I do like my Canon Rebel. Someday I hope to buy some more accessories to go with it. Thanks.
