Many thanks to Heidi for hosting this week. A great theme for cheering up these dull, dark winter days. Sorry I'm late posting, I've been away to visit my mom for her 80th Birthday. We held a surprise party for her.

First of all thanks Mitch for featuring my peanuts as banner and thanks Heidi for hosting.

Taking photos of flowers is a regular thing with me. In WordPress we have a "Flower of the Day" challenge and I am always busy with my camera in the local flower department of the supermarket, they even know me now and they do not seem to mind.

I love the exotic flowers, the ones you do not often see, and only in the stores. One of my favourites is what I call a "triffid" although I believe they are actually members of the protea family, but I love the strange sizes and shapes, as well as the colours

The name of these is Ranunculus it seems. I am not an expert, but read the labels on the flowers when I take the photos, so that I know what it is afterwards. They also arrive in various shapes, sizes and colours.

Bromelia seem to arrive in various colours these days, but I had never seen a white one, so I had to take the photo.

And here a photo of my Kalanchoe. I love these little flower plants. The are reasonable in price, and flower at least a month. All they need is some water once a week. This is my new one, so I put it in the garden for a photo amongst the snowy background. My last one was an intensive yellow and that is now taking a rest before flowering again.

The Three Wise Monkeys - a sort of family piece that Mr. Swiss brought with him when we married 48 years ago.

Hi Folks, here I am in the US where many of us are gobsmacked and embarrassed. The theme will be "Eve of Destruction". Haha - just kidding. For a theme I going to use "Animal, Vegetable, or Mineral".  It shouldn't be hard to take or find pictures, especially if you play with the definitions. Here are mine to get you started. You can do three of one or one each of three, or mix and match, whatever suits your fancy.

Animal: a snowy egret in flight.

Vegetable: I am not sure what sort of flower this is, but it caught my attention. It may be of the lily family.

Mineral: Ice coating my front door light.

Many thanks to Pat for hosting this week. A good theme, should get some variety of different types of shops!! It's not a subject I photograph very much, so I had to really dig into my archive for my contributions!!

1) Traditional greengrocers. Lots of lovely fruit!!

2) A shop in Weymouth, England that specialises in traditional and craft ales and beers. I'll drink to that!!

3) A popular gift-shop in Haverfordwest, Pembrokeshire, Wales.

4) Fish and Chips....always a popular shop, wherever you are in the UK!!
