PICTURE THIS -#390 ~ ARTS AND CRAFTS

HI ALL FROM CARNIVAL LAND GERMANY
THANK YOU ANDERS FOR A WONDERFUL THEME.

THE ART OF MASKS IS SO VERY INTERESTING. THIS TIME OF YEAR THEY ARE ALL WORKS OF ART. THE WOODEN ONES COST $200 UPWARDS. THEY ARE HAND CARVED. HERE WHERE I LIVE WE HAVE STREET CARNIVAL, MOSTLY OUTDOORS. ONLY WHEN IT RAINS OR BAD SNOW DO THEY COME INDOORS. MOST OF THIS COMES FROM THE COMMEDIA DELLA ARTE IN THE NORTH OF ITALY AND OLD HEATHEN RITUALS TO DRIVE OUT WINTER.

MY FAVORITE OF THE CARVED MASKS IS THE WITCH.

  2. Hi Heidi !! A great set of shots for this week's theme. A wonderful collection of the different types of carnival masks seem in your traditional celebrations. I can understand why the wooden ones are so expensive......not only the cost of the wood itself, but the amount of work that goes into them!! I guess face-painting isn't such a modern invention after all!!! LOL.

  3. Some great Fasnacht photos. Ours only begins at the end of the month, although in Appenzell it is already in January at the new year. There is a lot of work put into the costumes and here they begin to make them for the next year already this year. I am not a carnival person, but Solothurn is one of the main strongholds of carnival in Switzerland, although Basel is the biggest.

  4. Some great masks, Heidi!! I love the first one and I can see why you chose it as your Facebook avatar. The others are wonderful and the child on the bottom is adorable.
