PICTURE #431 ~ NEW YEAR

Hi Mitch! Excellent photo for the last banner image of this year!

Not sure this is common in other countries but, in Portugal, at midnight, many households give a noisy 'concert' by banging pots and pans that are not in good condition. By doing so, they say goodbye to the Old year and welcome the New one.
NEW YEAR

At midnight  Lisbon skies blaze from several points in the city. I took this photo last year from my apartment..
New Year...
In Lisbon, the main new year's eve party is free. The party consists of concerts by popular musicians and singers. It's sponsored by a Portuguese beer company. Yesterday, I saw this man giving away top hats for tomorrow's party...

Best wishes for a Very Happy 2018!

Many thanks to Anders for hosting this week. Good theme for this time of year. It will be interesting to see how folks interpret the theme. Hope everyone had a great Christmas and wishing everyone a Happy New Year!!

All my shots were taken on New Year's Day 2010 on a walk along the Pembrokeshire coastal path.

1) Partly frozen lake at Bosherston.
Ice Blue I

2)  Nice Ice baby!! I broke this piece of ice out of a water-trough. The troughs provide water for the semi-wild ponies that graze along the coastal path.

4) A Pembrokeshire pony. These semi-wild ponies graze along the coastal path. This was a unique shot, as there was a snowstorm on one side (behind the pony) and bright sunshine on the other, creating a rare 'snowbow'.

Picture This #430 ~ Interiors

First of all a big thankyou for featuring my bird population as the banner photo and to Mitch for hosting this week. As Mitch said, something different with interiors. I do not get out so much now and my pictures of the great outdoors are mainly from the car. I will be getting my electric wheelchair before Christmas, and when the weather improves I will again be able to get out with the camera. Holding a camera in one hand and a walking stick in the other does not work so well and a zimmer frame is the last thing I want. Anyhow now to my pictures.

As Mitch showed us his computer central, I will show you mine. Not so spectacular as I am a sort of portable person. I have an Apple computer, on the photo, which has a battery life of 10 hours, so do not need to attach it with a cable and also an Acer computer, also a laptop, but ideal for working in different rooms according to where I am. In the morning I am in the kitchen and in the evening in my "office" shown in the photo. I have a place for everything and when I am finished with the computer, the desk is empty. I then have my iPad for sitting in the living room, which you can see on the desk with the orange cover.

This is a typical restaurant in a village near to us. They still have the old stove in the restaurant with the green ceramic tiles which was the center of comfort in the old Swiss houses. They were a nice warm place to sit in the old days.

Good morning! It is still morning here. And a very cold morning. People are putting food out for the birds, as Pat has done in her lovely banner shot.

This is a good theme and I had fun finding pictures.

Bedroom
I had just been to Detroit's art museum to see Van Gogh's "Bedroom in Arles". At home I took some bedroom shots of my own. This is a cozy guest bedroom I often use myself.

Hi everyone, this is Mitch, I'll be hosting this week. When I was trying to think of a theme this week, it occurred to me that the vast majority of photos posted for our themes are outdoor shots.....so why not have a theme for indoor shots!!! So this week I want you to post interesting interior shots of any house or building you like!! Here are mine:

1) 1920's style bedroom at Scolton Manor, Pembrokeshire, Wales.

2) 1940's style living room at Picton Castle, Pembrokeshire, Wales

Picture This #429 ~ House/Houses

Hi, lazy me just got up, wonderful theme and gorgeous banner photo by Heidi. Here are my pictures and after some coffee I will be up to comment on yours.

House
My house.

DSC_0182
A very old house; student cooperative. I lived here in 1971, it wasn't painted so boldly then.

DSC_0078
A squirrel house. It was a bird house, but the squirrels always take them over and stuff leaves in. This squirrel apparently got carried away.

Picture This #429 ~ House/Houses

Many thanks to Pat for hosting this week. A good theme, there are so many possibilities as there are so many different types of houses!! I tried to go for a selection of houses that are very different from each other.

1) A stately home or mansion, seen in Dorset, England.

2) Mill worker's lodge, Cenarth, Wales.

3) Cliff dwelling known as 'Montezuma's Castle', in Arizona, built by the Sinagua people approx 900 years ago.
