Congratulations, Mitch, for the very nice banner image. I love the theme for this week. Aren't we surrounded by art, though sometimes we don't notice it?

It was not easy to select which of which photos in my folders I should post for the theme. I wanted to share with you something a bit different from what we commonly call art. Hope you like the photos below.

Thanks for hosting Mitch and for the great banner - yes the good old days of the AA road signs.

Looking though my photos I do not seem to have many new and original art photos, so I will have to perhaps look at it from another angle.

I was at my son's wedding last year in the Mosel area of Germany. Whilst there my son took me on a visit to the small town of Traben Trarbach on the Mosel. I took this photo whilst there. I believe it was some sort of memorial inmemory of one of the professors that lived in the town, as it was outside the local school.

I found this grave on the central cemetery in Vienna quite interesting with its many birds sculpture.

I took this in New York way back in 1993, I think on 5th Avenue. I am sure it is not longer there, not a great art work, but New York.

And I am now sneaking this one in as it is not often that I succeed in taking a photo which could almost be called macro, although I do not yet have my macro lens, should arrive next week. It is a

An Echinacea flower complete with bee. One of my attempts at manual photography and I think I am getting somewhere. Yes, our photos are also works of art. We do not paint them, but everything has to be in the right place at the right time, and I think I did not do too badly with this one.

Here are my three examples of art. The first one is from Louisiana Art Museum - the suggestive globes stood on the grounds outside the museum. The second one was set on a bench in a little park and the third one stood in the middle of an enclosure in the midst of the same park.

Good morning and good day!! Wonderful banner shot by Mitch. It seems that here in the USA whenever we have something old and picturesque we replace it with something new, modern, (and often plastic).

Great theme, here are my pictures:

Cliff paintings in Canada. The paintings were done about 500 years ago and were bright red until about 40 years ago when they started fading due to acid rain.

Hello everyone, this is Mitch. I'll be your host this week. Apologies for the late posting, I've been having connection problems. When you say the word 'ART' to many people they immediately think of old paintings hung on the walls of museums or art-galleries, but there is so much more to the word. There are so many things that are covered by 'art'....there's sculpture, pottery, painting, music, photography, installations........all sorts of things!! Let's see your shots of different types of art.

Here are mine:

1) 'Wind Of Change'. A large metallic sculpture in Poole, Dorset, England (I'm not sure if that is the correct name for it or if it's one I gave it, I took the shot back in 2011).

2) Stained Glass is an art-form hundreds of years old. This one is of St.Samson at the St. David's church, Caldey Island, Wales.

3) Floral Frog. A great example of 'flower-art', taken at the conservatory of the Bellagio Hotel, Las Vegas.

4) Hand-made clay 'face'. Made by one of the students at the Stackpole Mencap Gardens project for young adults with mental health issues.

First of all thank you for having my orchid as a banner picture. I was very surprised to see it there today.

Thankyou Anders for hosting this weeks picture this.

My first photo is a Winter scene on the road to the village of Langendorf in Switzerland: one of our Swiss Road crossing signs.

Our local train has its own signals, much to the disappointment of the car drivers. The train is the law and if the red triangle is showing, you have to wait until the train passes before it turns green again.

Our village is cut off from local world for the summer due to road repair work.

And we have signs everywhere to tell you where you are allowed to walk.

Many thanks to Anders for hosting this week. An interesting theme, with some good possibilities. We have had this theme once before, so I tried to find ones I didn't use previously. 

1) Very old sign, from the days when road signs could be put up by private motoring organisations, in this case the AA (Automobile Association) as well as local councils or the highway authorities. 

2) Another old-fashioned road sign. These are called 'mile-markers' and were used in the early days of road travel, some date back to coaching days, before the motor car came along.

3) Sign for a very steep hill in a local village. I've driven up this lane myself, believe me....it is very steep and narrow. You pray not to meet cars coming in the opposite direction!!!

4) This sign is more for 'foot-traffic' as it indicates the famous Pembrokeshire Coastal Path. I've walked sections of it myself, but never the full length!!

First of all, I am practicing doing my photos by manual method at the moment before I get my super new macro lens to see if I can do it. I found I am getting somewhere but still have a long way to go before I become a second Mitch.

Showing part of the ceiling of Waltham Abbey and the inside of the cathedral.

Saw this shop in the village of Waltham, although the white witch remained inside.

Not that I am posh, but with my handicap with my stick I now choose to travel 1st class, especially if I travel alone. On my way to Zürich Airport for my flight to  London, I was alone in the carriage, so now you have a shot of a 1st class Swiss railway carriage. Don't ask me who the guy is on the wall,some sort of Swiss modern hero probably.
