PICTURE THIS #354 ~ ELECTRONICS IN OUR LIVES

After a few weeks of absence, I'm pleased to be back on here and congratulate Benni for the beautiful twists and bends of the banner image and let Pat know how much I like the choice of the theme for this week.

A fun theme, Pat, I hope you are getting around a bit better. Lovely to see my whelk egg case as banner shot.

Digital camera 2000. This was my first digital camera; it's tiny (that's it in front of my face) and the quality was not so good, but I had a lot of fun with it.

Electronics can be warm and inviting to cats. This DVR was one of her favorite places to sleep until she barfed into in. It was never the same.

I had just gotten my Nikon and was experimenting with it. I captured the forecast of the worst ice storm in years.

Many thanks to Pat for hosting this week. Another interesting theme that I don't think we've had before!! Unfortunately, as primarily a nature photographer, I rarely shoot technology. I have no shots of 'old' electronic technology (old isn't all that old when it comes to electronics!!). So, I've had to resort to showing shots of my current electronics at home.

Here are mine:

1) My Samsung tablet. This was on the day I purchased it, as it came out of the box.

2) My computer workstation at home.  Featuring my computer, monitor, printer, external HD, 2.1 sound system with sub-woofer.

3) My big-screen TV, playing Netflix, as usual!! (sorry about the quality of this shot).

Picture This #354 ~ Electronics In Our Lives

Hi everyone from the Swiss mountains, at least near the Swiss mountains, but everything is near the Swiss mountains in Switzerland. Mitch asked and I obeyed, although as usual on Friday as I just do not have the time on Saturday morning.

I do not get out as much as I would like to to take photos, but last week visited a new museum in our town showing a collection of old electronic stuff, so that is my theme, the older the better, although new stuff is also welcome.

If anyone might have one of these around it would be interesting. The very first Apple computer marked with a price of $666.66, although that was 1976. Just imagine what it would be worth today and an original made with wood.

I really do not know what this is, something to do with electricity, but made an intersting shot.

Picture This #353 ~ Abandoned Places

Magnificent banner. Stormy sea and sky, and yet peaceful.

Old stone grill
An abandoned wood stove in the woods. Animals spend the winter in there.

Whelk egg case
Found on the beach, this is a whelk (sea snail) egg case.

Birdhouse
Abandoned bird house. Happily it has been repaired and has a sparrow family living in it again.

I am here again. I noticed the remarks made by Mitch about this site also being abandoned. I must admit I am not entirely innocent as I also missed out twice in the last month. I had problems with my dad, my own health problems, and since our Multiply collapsed I have now found my place in WordPress. I have made many friends there, and will even be travelling to Zürich on Monday to meet one of them who is from the States. I just enjoy writing and photography and there are so many challenges that keep me busy. Anyhow I had a look in my records and actually found a couple of abandoned objects in Switzerland, although most of them are renovated and afterwards sold for a great profit.

Some ago Mr. Swiss took me for ride up a local mountain where there is an old castle built into the slope, Balm by Günsberg.

Balm and Günsberg

This used to be a thriving place for the sales of stone object and fences at the top of the road where I stay when I am in London with my friend. Suddenly it was gone, everything removed so I took a few photos - it is in Hornchurch, Essex, London

What you are looking at here are the remains of the Ford Motor Works in Dagenham, London where my dad spent most of his working life. The factory is no longer the foundry for the cars, but now rented to various other businesses.

Hi everyone, this is Mitch. I'll be hosting this week. Before we get started, let me just say that I am concerned that once again the number of members taking part recently is getting really low. Several times recently we have had only four entries, including my own. I'm not sure if it is worth keeping the group going with such low numbers. I'd like to hear your thoughts on this.

This week's theme is 'Abandoned Places'. Any place that was once lived in but is now unoccupied, empty, desolate, ruined.

Here are mine:

1) Castell Carreg Cennen, Carmarthenshire, Wales.
Above The Crag 1

2) Wukoki Ruin, Wupatki National Monument, Arizona. Looks like a castle, but is actually a Hopi communal dwelling.

3) Tintern Abbey, Monmouthshire, Wales.

4) 'The Cabins', Valley Of Fire, Nevada.

Picture This #352 ~ Horizons

Hi Anders, thank you for this great theme. I had fun finding pictures for it.

And, as always, am honored to have my shot up there as banner picture.

Here are my takes on the theme:

Sea Grapes

There must be a horizon beneath all those clouds. I am in a plane descending into Venice Airport.
