As you all know I am an avid birder but every single one of these are taken in my garden.
They are all taken by my faithful little Canon SX120, the camera with a heart of gold.
I have to admit, I don't enjoy the new Fuji much,
should have waited for the opportunity of another Canon.
What I lack for in equipment, maybe a thousand shots and enthusiasm
and that one lucky streak

The third one we call a mourning dove here, because it makes a sound like a woman weeping.
The weaver bird is very pretty.
Thank you Debby, I always get a kick out of seeing African Hopoe in my garden, they are so very scarce in the suburbs. That Crested Barbet can get very nasty with other birds and vicisious too, have hand reared one, not nice like the other Black-bibbed Barbet we have in the nursery at the moment. Maybe it is a Mourning Dove, will double check to make sure what we call them here. I love our Weaver birds, they are busy with nests all winter and have 4- 6 little wives, this little girl is very special out the aviary, was hand reared.

DeleteHi Marianne!! I was hoping you'd post before it was too late, coz I know you have LOTS of great bird shots!! Love all your shots, the Barbet looks a real character, the Dove is handsome and the waver is just lovely, but my fave by far is the Hoopoe. Such colourful characters, and so distinctive. You couldn't mistake one for any other breed of bird!!
ReplyDeleteThank you Mitch, I just simply had such a hectic stupid week, running late with statements and no power all of Monday, to top it, some idiot started a slander post of my beloved Heia, so miss busy body here had to bring in the heavies. I was so worried this afternoon someone would post the new theme. The Hopoe is so very distinct yes and his call too. I am really privileged he likes my garden, maybe the bonemeal and worms I put out for him and the Hadeda Ibis could have something to do with it?
DeleteMarianne these are great. Love the Hopoe's colors, or markings. What c great looking outfit he has. The mourning dove is always fun to see. I have a lot of them around my place. Hearing them coo dawn till dust, is a nice treat each day. THey are always on a date with another Dove. all these shots are really nice. Thank you!
