Picture This #272 ~ Small Or Tiny

Hi everyone, this is Mitch. I'll be your host this week, as I forgot to arrange a guest host!! LOL!! Have had a heavy cold all week, and haven't been thinking very clearly.

This week's theme is SMALL OR TINY. This is not specifically a macro challenge, although you can use macros if you wish. It can be any subject you like, as long as the subject is something that can be described as small or tiny, that's the main thing.

Of course, you knew that I would use macros!! LOL!!

1) Honey Bee. I took this shot a couple of weeks ago, I think it's probably the best shot I've ever taken of a bee.

2) A tiny arachnid I spotted sitting on a daisy. I took this macro shot of it and was surprised how much it looks like it's much larger cousin, the Wolf Spider.

3) Not sure what kind of fly this is, it has a strange head-shape.

4) I spotted this ant exploring the inside of a Cranesbill flower.

  1. A fun theme Mitch, which will require some out of the box thinking LOL. Beautiful macros from you as always, but the spider really catches my eye, wonderful work mate ;)

  2. Hi, Mitch, yeah the spider caught my eye too, lol. That bee has got to be the cutest bee I have ever seen. It looks like it's all curled up for a nap and of course a gorgeous macro. Odd shaped head on that fly, don't think I've ever seen anything like it. Love the ant on a journey into the cranesbill, wonderful effects in the light. Really marvelous pictures.

    1. Thanks Benni :-)) On the day I took the bee shot, it had started off quite cool and rainy. It was just warming up at the time I took the shot, so the bee was still rather sluggish, giving me a better chance to get right in. Still trying to identify the fly.

  3. Wonderful details on the insects, I am sure they saw the camera and made an extra special post for you. We have spiders like yours where I live. the bee is a super photo and the fly - looks like the one they used in the film The Fly, are you sure the head is fly and not human?

  4. Hi Mitch! I hope you feel already recovered from the cold. Great theme! Great shots! Beautiful flowers ...the insects are tiny but they look more tiny as compared with the size of the flowers...

  5. WOW! All of these are incredible captures, Mitch. The bee is absolutely covered in pollen. It's so cool to be able to see detail that you miss with the naked eye.

Spiders almost always look scary to me, but resting on a flower it looks a little less formidable, doesn't it? It has such an elegant design on it's back. Makes me think of a lady all dressed up for a dinner date, but she forgot to shave her legs! :p

That is the most unusual fly I have ever seen! It has two tiny antennas or eyes hanging out in front. I looked it up on insectidentification.org but I couldn't find it.

The last one is my favorite. I love the color and shadows!
