Picture This #234 ~ Sculptures Or Statues

Congratulations Marianne for her photo being selected for this week's banner. What a beautiful arrangement of green beans and strawberries. They must be in season in your part of the world.

I commend Mitch for coming up with different themes. I haven't participated in the past couple of themes because I didn't have anything to contribute. But this time, Sculptures or Statues presented some images to select.

This first image is from a corner on the Doge's Palace in Venice. We passed the palace and this corner relief caught my eye. I have several photos of sculptures while we toured Italy but I want to include images from other places.

This statue of the dragon is located in Philadelphia's Chinatown.

We were in Vermont this summer and spent a few hours in Bennington. This is one of the Catamounts as a Patriot.

  1. Hi Robert!! It's good to see you taking part again this week!! Three good varied shots for the theme. The first one is beautiful, classical Italian craftsmanship. The Chinese dragon in the second shot looks of an impressive size, but hard to judge scale. How large was it? I really like the 'patriot cat' in the final shot, it appears to have been modeled on a mountain lion?

    1. Hi Mitch. Thanks for your comments. The statue of the dragon is large. Maybe the scale is hard to judge because of the close up shot. The patriot cat is a mountain lion. There may not be anymore of them in Vermont.

  4. Three very individual sculptures/figures. They all have their charm, but I am partiularly impressed by the colourful lion.

    1. Thanks, Pat. There were several statues of mountain lions displayed through the center of this town. I thought this was one of the most colorful. Bennington was the site of a battle during our War of Independence (1777).

  5. Hi Robert! Love your statues. The first is wonderfully Italian and classical. I love the Chinese dragon in Philadelphia, and the colorful catamount dressed as a Patriot. Wonder if he watches the Patriot football team? Splendid street scene.

    1. Thanks, Benni. I'm pleased that you liked all three images. If the catamount is still there he might be shedding tears because the Patriots lost the AFC on Sunday.

  7. All beautiful, all different. Interesting to see how your choices start from the very classical Italian past and the typical Asian lion-like sentry (actually, I think it's what Chinese people call a foo dog), that we always see as gateways to some specific place. Robert, do you remember which place in Chinatown, did you see that huge granite sculpture? Love the Patriot Cat..

  8. Hi Belita, thank you for the information on the Chinese sculpture. This sculpture was not placed as a gateway because there is a gate on the main street of Chinatown. This sculpture is at a park at the end of Chinatown.
