Picture This #234 ~ Sculptures Or Statues

Thank you Mitch,  for using my humble harvest
for a banner this week.

Great theme, only problem what to use,
that have not been used for something else before.

1. A Zulu Warriors metal sculpture in the middle of the huge restaurant at Misty Hills Hotel,
in Muldersdrift, called Carnivores. You can get anything there from crocodile to snake
and giraffe and in between. Eat like a lion eats.
Sculptures and Statues

2.  Statue depicting a Dutch  Voortrekker woman protecting her children at the
       Voortrekker Monument in Pretoria.
Sculptures and Statues 2

3.   Rhino sculpture made out of fiber glass,
found a the factory in Hartebeespoort, outside the market.
Sculptures and Statues 3

Have a wonderful week everyone, I will sincerely try to visit and comment.
If I do 2 a day, should manage by Saturday. *smile*

  2. Hi Marianne!! Glad to see you found three great shots you hadn't used before. Excellent sculpture of the Zulu warriors. The restaurant sounds intriguing, I'm always willing to try new food experiences. But eat like lions? I don't think they expect you to ambush the food and kill it yourself??? LOL. Good photo of the Voortrekker woman and children. Great sculpture of the Rhino, looks like an elephant behind it?

    1. No, LOL, Mitch, youi don't have to kill it yourself. Maybe a bit of an exaggeration, you can read more about this unique restaurant here, we take all our overseas visitors there, not so much for the food, but the experience and ambience, makes you feel, you are now in Africa.

  3. Congratulations, Marianne, on your wonderful banner shot.

Your top picture is so full of drama and adventure. I love it. Also the picture of the brave woman with her children clinging to her. Maybe my favorite is the fabulous rhino sculpture. The horn is enormous and so realistic.

  4. Not every day I see Zuluwarrior statues, very interesting. The middle statue is also something completely different, but the rhino takes it all - It looks very realistic.

    1. Thank you Pat, the fiberglass animals are all made exactly to size. It is amazing, like entering Noah's Ark.

  5. Interesting shot of the Zulu warriors. I've heard of wild game dinners but this beats them all. This statue of the woman and the children make me realize how comparable it was for these settlers as it was for the settlers in our West. The rhino looks realistic. Great contribution to the theme.

    1. Thank you Robert. Yes, there is a lot of comparisons, in America they got shot at with arrows by the native red indians and here the settlers were ambushed and slaughtered with spears by Zulu warriors. In the middle of it all, a civil war between the English and the Arikaaner, Dutch settlers broke out and a lot of Afrikaans speaking women and children were put into Concentration camps by the British, before Hitler even was born and took the glory of thinking that one up. *rolls eyes*

  7. Congratulations on the banner Marianne!
Three unique and interesting pieces of art. The first one is full of life, the middle one gives me a sad feeling and the bottom one is my favorite...so life like!

    1. Thank you Danette.

I understand your sad feeling at that statue. A visit to the Voortrekker Museum always leaves me with a strange feeling, very controversial feelings in my heart.
