Picture This #221 ~ Memories Of Summer

I have been absent for a few weeks. Fortunately, there wasn't anything serious that prevented me from participating. We went away last weekend and I couldn't enter any images. I'm pleased that Mitch chose a great theme for this week. Summer is definitely over. Our trees are changing color, the nights are cooler, and our attentions turn away from outdoor activity.

Thank you, Mitch for allowing us to post more photos.
I like Danette's image of the surf. It seems to go well with this theme.

This first image was taken a couple of summers ago in Hyannis on Cape Cod. We stopped at one of the local beaches in the late afternoon. Here were some folks enjoying the end of the day. There was this large cloud forming and eventually it stormed.

These figs were on sale at a local farmstand in Vermont.

We had a family event on the shore this summer. I spotted this boy playing on the shore. The summer seems endless for young people. They seem to enjoy the season the most.

These gladioli are in my garden.

  1. Welcome back, Robert! Four very nice shots. A beach at the end of the day has a special feel... The figs look delicious, specially the dark ones... That beach must be a temptation to people who like picking up shells... Very pretty gladioli you have in your garden...

    1. Thank you, Belita. The figs looked delicious. The beach at the end of the day has a special feel. There is enough warmth without the blazing sun. I wish that I had more gladioli in my garden. They're crowded by hibiscus and daisies.

  4. Hi Robert!! Good to see you back, I had been wondering where you were!! Great shots for the theme. Looks like the couple in the first shot were trying to get every last minute out of their beach time before the storm arrives. The figs look most inviting!! I noticed in the third shot an unusual feature, in that the grass/greenery seems to stretch right to the water's edge. You don't often see that. Lovely shot of the Gladioli.

    1. Thank you, Mitch. I was really focused on the cloud forming above the horizon. I do think having subjects in a photo makes it interesting. The figs are inviting. I'm not sure about the grass close to the water's edge. This isn't the ocean. It's a Sound.

  5. Robert, what fabulous pictures!! The two beach scenes are wonderful; I particularly like the second one with the trees and beachcomber. Great figs, nicely shot. And your glads are very beautiful with the white throat.

    1. Thank you, Benni. I was interested in putting the boy in the photo. I could have moved closer but I didn't want to intrude and scare him. The glads are my favorite summer flowers.

  7. Hi Robert! I love the beach shot and the pretty houses, not to mention the sweet couple sitting there on the left. I love to photograph couples.

The figs look yummy! I had 8 fig bushes at my old house. (which I miss very much). My granny used to make the most delicious fig preserves and always had buttermilk biscuits on the table to go with it.

It's true, children don't seem to notice the heat as much as us older folks. Nice shot of the boy playing on the beach. I especially love the trees in the background. Really expressive.

The gladiolus is such a pretty color. I love it!

  8. Thanks Debby for your comments. I never had fig preserves. It does seem delicious. Isn't it amazing how photos can evoke memories for us. I overlooked that couple on the beach until I viewed the photo in my computer. I can recall when I was younger how endless summer seemed. It's a nice location to shoot.
