PICTURE THIS #242 ~ CONTRAST

Hi all, Belita here!!

I have recently read the novel 'Whale Talk' by Chris Crutcher, and one sentence I still remember was 'nothing exists without its opposite'. Thinking of it, my choice of theme for this week is 'CONTRAST'. You can interpret it in many ways: the difference in colour, strong light and deep shadows, straight lines and curves, young and old, etc.

Have fun with any types of contrast and share them with us...
Thank you!!

My contrasts:

Thistle in bloom and withered thistle
CONTRAST: thistle in bloom and withered thistle

Red wattles in contrast with the white plumage CONTRAST: RED WATTLES IN CONTRAST WITH THE WHITE PLUMAGE

Old-style zinc wash tub in contrast with a modern plastic tub
CONTRAST: old style laundry zinc tub side by side with a plastic tub

Contrast between brightness and darkness
CONTRAST: BRIGHTNESS/DARKNESS

  2. Hi Belita!! many thanks for hosting this week's challenge. I really like your choice of theme!! Lots of scope for variety!! Your shots all show great aspects of 'contrasts'. Good shot of the living/dead thistle heads. The white duck with the red wattle is beautiful. Great contrast between old and new types of tubs. I am still trying to work out what is in the final shot....I think it's a globe hanging from a roof and a spotlight shining on the floor below it?

  3. Hi Mitch! It's always a pleasure to host a PT Challenge. Oh you like my choice of theme. Great! Thanks for your comments. Your understanding about the final shot is very correct. I took it at the Museum of Design and Fashion (Lisbon).

  4. Hi, Belita, great theme. You are right, there are so many possibilities in it. My favorite of yours is the top thistle with the very soft lavender and dried brown.

  5. A very good theme to choose and a good idea with the two thistles, sort of dead and alive. Nice colour contrast on the chicken and the two different sorts of washing bukets. The last photo is very clever.

  7. I too likes your theme Belita and wondering what I can find or come up with to join in.
Your photos are great as usual but for some reason, I like the bottom one the best.

    1. Thanks, Baz! That image was taken at an exhibition that had on display objects/utensils from the past side by side with the related modern ones.

  9. Lovely shots, Belita. That first one of the vibrant bloom and the dead, withered one was a perfect choice for the theme.

I love the wash tub, also...but I can't help but wish the plastic tub out of the picture, even though it is a striking contrast. That arrangement is so lovely I hope you have a shot of it without the blue plastic!

The duck shot is just great. Love the fencing behind it.

The light/dark photo is lovely and dramatic! I feel like someone should be dancing there!

    1. thanks, Deb, for your comments. That blue plastic tub was there precisely with the purpose of showing how things in the past were different from the modern ones.

  10. Beautiful contrast between the living and the dead

Exception clarity in the white plumage and the gentle red of the beak and face

    Wonderfully juxta-positioned wood and metal

    Exceptional shot
