Picture This #244 ~ Birds

Wow what a theme, I am so grateful to have this opportunity, on one of our last days in Florida, to show off some of my bird friends. And to select some of my favorites.

Randall, magnificent banner picture, I am sorry I wasn't able to comment on it when you first put it up. Next week, I will be more timely as I will have our own high speed internet.

My friend the stork. Every morning he would knock on the back glass with his beak to see if I had some leftover fish for him. He let me get so close. I will miss him.

  1. Hi Benni !! Wow, what a fabulous collection of birds!! I like how the Black Ibis is almost a silhouette without having the sun behind him!! LOL. The White Ibis in flight is superb!! Your action-captures just keep getting better and better. Good shot of the pelican having lunch. Love that Wood Stork. They are such odd-looking birds......beautifully graceful bodies, but just about the ugliest faces you can find!! I got a great close-up of one last time I was in Florida.

    1. Thank you so much. I have never seen birds like the ones here. You're right about the storks, lovely graceful bodies, but ugly heads. I wonder, from an evolution stand-point, what value it serves for them to have feather-less leathery heads.

  6. WOW! Benni, I love all of these! Especially that first one. Just beautiful!

I can never catch a bird in flight without the motion blur. This is very good!

The pelican is wonderful and the stork is just incredible. It's so nice to see one up close and what a lovely experience! I've had squirrels come up to my back door to beg for food, but never anything as magnificent as this bird. He looks very old and wrinkled! or are they all like that?

    1. Thanks so much, Debbie, I spent so much time learning how to get them in flight **sometimes**, more often they are blurry or I have a wonderfully focused birdie butt. And, yes, all the storks are like that, don't know why, no feathers on head or neck.
