Picture This #243 ~ Flower Power

Hi ! This is Debby Van Enkenvoort hosting this week. Even though we have a nor'easter headed our way again next week, we have had a few warm, albeit windy days and there are a few bushes budding. Looks like Spring is near. I would have liked to title this one "Spring Fever", but I don't have it yet. Do you? So we'll just make this one about flowers. I'm sure we all have some lovely shots we can share. Thank you for participating in this week's theme. I look forward to viewing your contributions.

All three of my shots are from the Warm Temperate Pavilion
at Brooklyn Botanic Garden

  1. Oh, nice shot of the sky and the clouds, Anders! Looks like there is a bit of a downpour, also. Your photo makes a lovely banner!

  3. Wow - the first one is absolutely fabulous.

The intricate detail of the underside of the petals is incredible.

Beautiful deep purple centres and gently colours petals.

  5. Hi Debby!! Many thanks for hosting this week!! We did do this theme back in February, but I sure don't mind......I love flower photos!! I'm pretty sure everyone else does, too. I really like the glow of the white flower in the first shot, and the tiny bug crawling on it. Looks like a variety of Lily. The second shot is beautiful....that's my kind of shot!! I'm not familiar with that variety...any idea what it is? The third one is almost certainly a variety of geranium, another stunner!!

  6. Sorry, Mitch. I should have double checked before posting. Flowers are the main thing that I like to photograph so it's easy to get hung up on a flower based theme.

The geranium that you mentioned is a Geranium maderense. I'm not sure about the other two. I usually photograph the name cards along with the flowers but some of them don't have them in place yet. I'll continue to look for the names.

  7. Hi Anders! That first one reminded me of a Louis Comfort Tiffany lamp. Thanks for viewing and commenting.

  8. Thanks, Nik! I'm glad you like them. It is such a joy to be able to visit the garden and spend so much time among the flowers. I think I could stay there all day photographing flowers!

  12. What a wonderful theme, Debby. I think your first exquisite shot is a Mariposa lily. Wonderfully taken. Love the detail on your other two as well.

  13. Apologies once again, Debby , for always being so late. I get all the updates on the email so have been ooooohing and aaaaahing all week, as was off line the whole of last weekend. WE had a rare Free Friday, so a nice long weekend and I had promised to stay off line to finish other chores around the house. This weekend is month end captures in the office, so bound to the computer anyway, so sneaking a bit of extra time in. Have just realised I have been online since 9am it is now 11am, that is 2 hours gone out of my day, which as everyone elses only have 247 hours in it, way too short for all I need to do.

Love the flower theme and judging by all the entries, so does everyone else.

Love that warm pavillion photograpsh, must be a haven to go to, when it is winter cold dark and dreary in NY? I vaguely remember a garden that had a hot house in it, my parents used to take us in winter, when as a child living in Copenhagen. It was Wonderland of warmth and flowers and colours. Maybe that inspired me to flee to a warmer climate, who knows.

See you later when whoever puts up a new theme, no idea who is hosting but grateful I got in before the curtain went on Flower Power *grins*
