Picture This #255 ~ Your Life/Your Neighbourhood

Many thanks to Heidi for hosting this week's challenge. This will be an interesting theme, it'll be good to get to know the places where my friends live!!

I haven't taken many photos recently of my neighbourhood, so all my shots are older ones from my archive. The area I live in is fairly rural. Several villages, a couple of small towns and quite a few historical sites.

1) This is the 'busy' main street of the village where I live.

2) This is the view from my home.

3) The nearest historical site is actually in the village where I live. These are the remains of Lamphey Palace, once the home of the Bishops of St David's.

4) A couple of miles away is Carew,  another small village with a lot of history. This is a view of the Mill and Millpond, taken at sunset on a freezing cold winter's day.

5) The main river of the area is the Cleddau. Not a very long river, but has the distinction of widening into one of the deepest natural harbours in the world before it reaches the sea, at a place called Milford Haven, just three miles from where I live. Here you can see the ferry to Ireland leaving port.

    1. Thanks Benni :-)) Lamphey palace is actually a smaller twin of the Bishop's main palace at St David's, the ruins of which stand next to the current cathedral.

  5. Looking at your nice shots, makes me feel like travelling to Wales, where I have never been. Love the quietness that surrounds your place that though they may not be big ones always have very interesting corners to discover, either historic or not.

    1. Thanks Nico :-)) I believe when you visited Wales, you toured mainly in the north of the country? I live in the very south-west corner.

    3. Oh ok, Nico. Yes, those places are in the south of wales, but much further east to where I am.

  7. What a lovely village, Mitch. It looks so peaceful and quiet.

Your second shot is like looking out over an antebellum plantation down south. What a pretty view you have from your place!

The ruins are the stuff dreams are made of! Makes me think of Mary Stewart's "The Crystal Cave" (one of my fav books). Wonderful shot!

The millpond looks so dramatic with the trees and houses in the background etched in gold, and the pond itself looks like molten silver and gold swirling together.

Nice shot of the harbor. Lovely reflections of the sky/clouds.
