Picture This #209 ~ The Photos That No-One Wanted

Pat here from Switzerland, this time no snow and ice, just hot, hot, hot. Who knows perhaps our mountain snows might start melting.

Finding a subject for our PT challenge becomes more and more difficult. The good ones have been taken and it is becoming increasingly more difficult not to repeat the photos, so I had a brainwave (yes, I still have a brain somewhere amongst the dust and cobwebs of the days gone by).

I am sure most of us, if not all of us, have photos we would have loved to post, but the subject was not right, or they are so strange and out of this world that they would never fit. So the idea is show them to us. There might be a gem amongst them and perhaps tell us something about them.

Here are mine

This is definitely a photo of the year prize winner. Early one morning at the parking place of the local supermarket Mr. Swiss spotted the sunrise reflecting on the shopping carts so said "Take a picture". I did and am still waiting for the prize.
Sunrise Migros, Langendorf

I am sure you all were longing to see what a Swiss drain-cleaning truck looks like and the operators. Well here it is, caught in the action, just opposite the entrace to my appartment building.
Clearing the drains

And to finalise this selection of rare photographic masterpieces, here is a Swiss milking shed. The cows stand on the platform, the farmer stands lower in the middle and hooks the cows onto the machine. My friend's farm in the village of Oberdorf.

  1. Hi Pat!! Thanks for hosting this week. What a great idea you've come up with for the theme!!I I'm sure everyone will have odd photos they've never been able to use. I know I have!!

I really like the sunrise on the shopping carts!! Neat idea!! Drain-cleaning....it's a dirty job, but someone has to do it. Good shot of those who do it!! Glad you gave an explanation of the third one, coz I was thinking it looked like some sort of exotic water-spa!! The part in the middle looks like water. I'd never have guessed it was a milking shed.

    1. It does look like water, but the Swiss have a hobby, they love cleaning everything, and you can just see the reflection of the lights in the spotless shiny floor. I would have loved to have caught the shot during milking time, but the herd was out in the field having a grass lunch.

  2. Terrific line of lights.

What do they look like - the whole world wonders. :)

    Looks like a cool pool.

  3. Wow, what a creative theme!! Your first shot looks like there is a fire in the shopping cart hut. My favorite. Also like the drain-cleaner and always wondered about how cows were milked.

    1. The idea with the cow milking would be to take a three legged stool, sit on it and that pull on the hanging bits of the cow euter. However it is all electric now and they attach the metal tubes to the euter, switch the machine on and some time later you have a can of milk. No-one asked the cows which they prefer.

    2. I'd guess the cows prefer warm hands, but who knows. Fascinating to actually see the milking machine itself.

  4. A great theme Pat I tend to be quite ruthless with my "quirky" shots and most are assigned to the recycle bin, but I do have one group of shots I do not post often and I am looking through those now;)

    1. I rarely throw a shot away, that is probably why I have over 11,000 in Flikr. You never know, they might come in 'andy (as my mum always said).

  5. I love your sense of humour, Pat and have often commented on it. This time you have outdone yourself *big smile* Fantastic theme, you are so right and yes I am interested in what the sun does to shopping carts when rising, what a drain cleaning truck looks like in Switzerland and a very clean milking shed. Now having a good ole chuckle while seeing what I have, if not 1000's then quite a few lying around, that was taken, just in case, one day they might come in 'andy .................... Hugs you tight.

  6. Oh by the way just noticed the header / banner, thought it looked a bit "familiar" when I logged in. LOL

Thank you Mitch. Am very proud to see Warner Beach with Amanzimtoti river and town on our page.

  7. A brilliant choice for a theme, Pat.

Your shopping cart sunrise is ELECTRIC! I really like that. Leon will do that every once in a while---tell me to take a picture of something. I keep offering him use of a camera but he refuses to try it. Glad Mr Swiss was around for this one.

Your drain cleaning truck is something we don't get to see everyday. In fact, I've never seen one! Not only is it interesting, but it's very colorful, as well.

  8. The milking machine looks like a swimming pool!

  9. Yeah Debby I felt the same thing. Wow could be something here with that. Milk on the water. Hmm might even have some music that might work here too. LOL. Now the draining shot is cool. Just goes to show it takes real people to keep things flowing in the right direction. I think we all appreciate that very much. The first has something about it. I can feel why the shot was taken, and know what it looked like but to get it and the feeling on film/memory is hard. But that is still cool. Mr Swiss has good eyes, but prize may show up here instead. Great way to start this theme. Thanks. Giving some new life to some shots that had been buried.

  11. A very fun theme Pat. Your photos are very interesting. I actually I have seen a drain cleaning truck quite like that. The sunrise is a unique and interesting shot. I like the milking station too.

  12. I love your sense of humor, Pat, in sharing these photos. I could be drawn to photographing the sunrise on the shopping cart shelter. The next photo is like a documentary on Swiss technology. I've never seen anything like that equipment in the States. Very interesting photo of the milking process.
