PICTURE THIS #207 ~ CEMETERIES, CRYPTS, HEADSTONES

Whenever I travel, I always try to visit a local cemetery as the cult of the dead tells me something  about the people's culture.
My three contributions.

KRAKOW -POLAND
CEMETERY - KRAKOW - POLAND

KONYA - TURKEY CEMETERY - KONYA CITY - TURKEY

KWAI TOWN - THAILAND. The cemetery is on the Kwai riverside (1939-1945 - THE LAND ON WHICH THIS CEMETERY STANDS IS THE GIFT OF THE THAI PEOPLE FOR THE PERPETUAL RESTING PLACE OF THE SAILORS, SOLDIERS AND AIRMEN WHO ARE HONOURED HERE)

  3. Lovely pictures, Belita! I think the inclusion of the women in the top two add to the interest. I wonder what they are thinking and why they stopped. The bottom picture reminds me of the heartache of war; always there will be men (and women) to be buried. It is fitting that they be remembered.

  4. Hi Belita!! Three very good shots for Joanne's theme. There is quite a difference between the first shot (where the graves look recent or new) and the second shot (where the graves look older). Both are enhanced by the women standing looking at them. The third one rings memories for many British servicemen who were prisoners-of-war who were forced to build the bridge there.

Enjoy your trip!! Where are you going?

  6. I never thought about it like that. It would be a good way to get a feel for the culture and the peoples of the area. Good idea!

  9. I like all three, but the top two are even more special with the ladies looking at the tombstones.

  10. Belita, your photos reflect the cultures on how they bury their dead. I was drawn particularly to the last photo in Thailand. The monument honors the POWs. The film Bridge Over the River Kwai was a good movie about their imprisonment.
Hope you have a safe trip.
