Picture This #208 ~ Holidays, Vacations, Trips

Many thanks to Marianne for hosting this week. A great theme, and one that everyone should have photos for, so no excuses for not taking part!!! LOL.

My shots are all from my vacation with Joanne this year. We took a road-trip along the old Route 66 through Arizona, stopping at several famous (and beautiful) places along the way.

1) Great Meteor Crater
Meteor Crater 1

2) Abandoned Hopi dwelling, Wupatki National Monument
Box Canyon Dwelling 4

3) The Grand Canyon
Grand Canyon 6

    1. Thanks Anders. The crater wasn't quite what I had expected. Having seen many photos of it, I expected it to be very wide and reletively shallow, but it was actually not as wide as I thought but much deeper. It's still a very impressive sight though!!

  4. Love those photos. The one of the crater is very impressive and the other two show just how big and wide everything is in the States.

    1. Thanks Benni :-)) Yes, that middle one is a fave of mine, too. I have it as my banner shot on my own page. Imagine waking up to that view every day!! Although there is a lot of open plain and the winds can get very strong, even in summer.

  7. Mitch, these are excellent shots. I like the side view of the Wupatki ruins with the mountain in the background. Did you feel the trip to Wupatki National Monument was a good excursion? The other two images are great. The colors in the canyon are beautiful.

    1. Thanks Robert :-)) We had originally only planned to go as far north from Flagstaff as the Sunset Volcano crater, but after your tip decided to carry on to the Wupatki NM. I'm glad we did, it was a beautiful place.

    2. We were on a guided tour and I wished that we stopped at the Sunset Volcano Crater. It was the lava flow that made the land fertile for the people to settle there.
      Glad you enjoyed it.
