Picture This #188: Your Neighbourhood

Many thanks to Heidi for hosting this week's challenge. A very good theme she has chosen. It'll be fascinating to see photos of the different areas and countries where our members live.

I live in a small village in south-west Wales, called Lamphey. I haven't taken many photos of the village itself, as I tend to go further afield to do my photography, and those I had taken I couldn't find!! I eventually tracked them down to an untitled folder on my external hard-drive.

1) This is the view from my bedroom. The building you can see is the Lamphey Court Hotel. It is a Georgian mansion house built in 1823. It was purchased and restored by the Best Western hotel group in the 1980's.

2) Lamphey Church. Has one of the tallest towers of any village church in the county of Pembrokeshire. It's proper name is the Church of St Tyfai & St Faith, and dates from the 14th Century.

3) Lamphey Village. This is the main street of the village, a very busy road, as you can see!!

I was born and raised in Birmingham, which is the UK's second biggest city after London. I remember once saying that I couldn't imagine living anywhere else. But now after several years living in this lovely countryside I say that I couldn't imagine ever living in a city again!!

  7. What a wonderful place you live in I have never been to Wales. you should show some more of your cymru life. It is a sort of Welsh version of my Swiss village.

    1. Thanks Pat :-)) I really love it here and as I said in my reply to Sophie, I couldn't imagine ever moving back to the city life now. Actually, apart from my trips to the US, the majority of my photography that you've seen on Multiply and here on Blogger was done here in Wales, a lot of it within the local county. It's just the village I live in that I haven't photographed all that much. Perhaps I'll do more when the weather gets a bit warmer :-))

  9. What a beautiful, historic area you live in, Mitch! I especially love the first shot of the Georgian Mansion.

Nice shot of the church tower. Have you been up in it?

Your main street looks very quiet!

It would have been great if the old Lamphey Court mansion could have been purchased by The National Trust or Cadw (Welsh Heritage) and restored to it's former glory. Best Western have turned it into a very luxurious (and expensive) hotel, but it's not the same.

No I haven't been up in the church tower, it is not open to the public, unfortunately.

  10. Great view to have from your bedroom. Your town seems to combine the very old and new. The bottom scene looks like ones I have seen in the UK show "Top Gear", which perhaps you have seen. The red mailbox is a nice touch.

Yes, I know 'Top Gear', I watch it every week. Thankfully I have not seen Clarkson, Hammond and May roaring through this particular village in expensive supercars!!! LOL.

  11. I love the shots of your little town. The Georgian mansion resembles our White House. What a great site from your bedroom window. I like the photos of the church and the corner with the red mailbox.

Yes, there is a passing similarity in style between that mansion and the WH. The red mailbox is such an iconic British thing, that I had to include it in a shot.
