Picture This #199 ~ Spring

Many thanks to Heidi for hosting this week's challenge. Her chosen theme is Spring. For many of us Spring has been very late in arriving this year. Here in the UK, the flowers and the trees are only now in bloom, much later than usual. I haven't had a chance to photograph anything Spring-like here yet this year, and I didn't want to use one from previous years, as I've used them many times already, so I'm going to be a little different and present Spring desert-style. These are all flowers found in the desert heat of Arizona in the Spring, taken on my recent trip with Joanne. All were taken at a place called Montezuma's Well.

  4. Wow what interesting flowers bloom there. Similar to our flowering succulents in the Kalahari, I think. Lovely captures, Mitch.

My mother have not had much of a spring yet either, at least not heat wise. Cold still and snowed last week, but her tulips, crocus, yellow erantis and snow drops are flowering, so wish I could see it for myself.

    1. Thanks Marianne. Funny thing about these particular three flowers is that although they are desert plants, none of them are cacti or succulents (I did get shots of those, too, though!!).

Spring is finally blooming here, the Spring flowers are out and the trees are in blossom, but it's still cooler than it should be for this time of year, and still getting a lot of rain.

  5. All three shots are amazing Mitch.
That bottom macro is perfect...I have never
seen some of these flowers before.
Is the white cup a weed? I think we have that one and it grows fast and crazy.

    1. Thanks Sue. I don't think the 'white cup' is a weed, as such. If it is, it's a rare one, as this is the only example of this plant I saw on my travels through Arizona. That said, it does bear a resemblance to a plant that IS a weed in the UK.

  6. Great shots Mitch. Your purple fuzzy is absolutely stunning with those wonderful details. The White cup has been taken at a very good angle, really making it look like a cup and your have really caught the fragility of the flower in the first shot.

    1. Thanks Pat. There was a stiff breeze blowing that day that made macro shots very difficult, it took quite a while to nail these.

  7. Totally stunning, all of them! The white one in the middle, its delicacy and grace so well captured by you, may be a mariposa lily. The detail on the bottom one is exquisite.

    1. Thanks Benni :-)) I looked up 'Mariposa Lily' online, and it does indeed resemble one. I think you may be right. Well spotted!!

  8. WOW, Mitch! beautiful photos! I love all three of them. The light in that second one is incredible. I love the name! It made me think of the Holy Grail. Don't know why. It looks positively righteous!

I like the last one best. It's so unusual. Beautiful shot. The excellent bokeh effect really makes the blossom stand out.

    1. Thanks Debby :-)) The last one was very difficult to get. There was a breeze blowing that day that made macro shots very difficult. These fuzzy flowers are so light and delicate, the slightest breath of air moves them. It took some patience to get it!!

  12. Fabulous three shots... all the three are my favourites... how exquisite and beautiful is the purple fuzzy...

  13. I love your macro shots Mitch. The White Cup has the details of the petals. The purple fuzzy is unique. The delicate bloom had to be located in the desert. What a great contrast with the arid soil.
