Picture This Challenge 192 ~ Glass

What a lovely lovely rose by Marianne for our Picture of the Week! Congrats and well done.

When Mitchy asked if I would host this week's challenge, my thoughts went to glass. Maybe it was because I love glass, especially antique glass, maybe it was because I had found a mysterious piece of sea glass just that day.

I am hoping you will have fun with this theme, and go with windows, bottles, vessels, vases, or, expanding a little, things that are smooth as glass, clear as glass, and so forth.

Glass beads

These are glass beads from the 1960's hung over the mirror of my vanity. Nowadays it is difficult to find glass beads, but it used to be my delight to go and select beads and spend pleasant hours making necklaces with a beading needle and silk thread.

Glass and cat

Glass vases with gold adornment, and my little cat who does not disturb them.

Beach glass

A little piece of mystery. This picture reminds me of one Mitch took of ice, but it is my best attempt to get a photo of a piece of glass washed up on the beach. It is about 2 inches or 5 cm across at its widest. It is clear glass, with raised letters and numbers on a bowed-in (concave) surface. I pumped up the contrast so they are more visible. It seems to say AQUA, then possibly CO then IN. Beneath that a B (maybe) and 1641. Beneath that a partial logo I have searched the internet for and the number 59. Friends on Facebook suggested The Maine Antique Bottle and Glass Museum and they said they would take a look. For now it's a reminder of the mysteries of the sea and the durability of glass.

I look forward to your entries.

  2. HI Benni !! Thanks for hosting this week. Great theme, with plenty of scope!! Belita posted on her page that she's away for the weekend, so she'll probably be a late poster, Monday, maybe even Tuesday.

Love your three shots to start with. I really like the light falling on the glass-bead necklaces in the first shot. My mom makes loads of home-made jewellery, so has many like this. Lovely shot of Honey dozing in the sunlight. Is the mat there specifically for her? Or has she 'adopted' it? Wonderful golden glass vases. That piece of mystery glass looks to be a real find!! Looks like it may have been from a shipwreck. I hope you manage to find out more about it. If you do, please post something about it on your page!!

I'll be back with my entries on Saturday :-))

    1. I put the mat there for Honey so she could look out and also have a soft spot. I will definitely do a blog about my mystery glass by and by, including the fascinating guesses already made by my FB friends.

My pleasure to host; I will keep an eye open for Belita and others who might post later.

  6. Thank you firstly to Benni for hosting this week. Great theme, with loads of scope in it. Glass is so very difficult to capture, like snow and ice, a tricky medium. I sure look forward to seeing the entries. Will have to shoot specially for this one, as I have never quite got it right. Glass that is LOL

Second, thank you so much Mitch for choosing my rose for banner. I am honoured. *bows*

Benni, I well remember the glass bead necklaces and all the fun we had choosing colours and patterns. Those were the days of long flowing skirts in summer and home knitted jerseys , far too big, loose and full of colours and patterns. *smile*

Love Honey in the window, you got the glass vases and the glass window very nice. Looks so warm and cosy in the sun stripe.

Such an interesting piece of glass you found. Must be from an old bottle, long long ago. Do keep us updated.

Will post a bit later, the sun is shining, it is a beautiful day and I am busy sorting out my late summer vegetable garden. Am full of mud at the moment, just quickly had to check the theme out.

    Hugs you tight.

    1. Hi Marianne, hope you are enjoying the garden. Yes, I do remember the long flowing skirts and the blouses with patterns and lace to wear with my beads. Those were some great days. I will post something on my page when (if) I learn more about the glass. Can't wait to see your pictures; take your time, though, and enjoy!

  8. I love the colors of the beads and the lovely color of the woodwork next to your vanity. Very warm and romantic.

I am crazy about glass beads, I'd have them strung up all over the apartment if I could afford them. I want a curtain of beads to go across the doorway. There are so many bead shops in NYC on 6th Avenue.

I LOVE the picture of the cat in the window! It's beautiful!

I love mystery, too. I hope you find out where it's from. I found an old shard of blue pottery once on a mountain side, and convinced myself that it must have been American Indian. I researched and researched but never found out anything about it. I stuck it away somewhere, and haven't seen it since.

Thanks for hosting. It's a great theme!

  9. Thanks for hosting Benni. I had to start taking photos today as I have very little glass photos that I had never used. I love the glass beads. The second photo is very good composition with those windows in the background. The glass you found is also very interesting.
