Picture This #206 ~ City, Town or Countryside

Thanks again for putting my Honesty picture at the top. I was pleasantly surprised when I saw it yesterday.

Here is the Market Street in the local town of Solothurn on a market day which takes place twice a week, Saturday and Wednesday morning.

Marktgasse from St. Urs Stairs

Our village of Feldbrunnen, just down the main road from Solothurn, is actually split into two parts. The bottom part, South, where we live that borders onto the River Aar and the top part, North, know as St. Niklaus, that lays at the foot of the Jura mountains. Here is a view of St. Niklaus, a conglomeration of farms and country houses.

Here is part of the agricultural zone that surrounds our little village just after the harvest.

  1. Hi Pat! Your photograph of the Honesty plant is so lovely, congratulations on that. I love your picture of the market day in Solothurn; it's a very nice perspective. St. Niklaus is a beautiful village, and I am impressed by this shot with the houses tucked in between the deep green forest and the emerald field. Your bottom picture reminds me of the brief time I had in Switzerland with the rounded hay bales in the shadow of the mountains. Very beautifully taken and described by you, all three. I think the middle is my favorite, just so striking.

  2. Hi Pat !! Three lovely shots for Benni's theme. Really nice shot of Solothurn, a very characterful place, you can see the history. I love the shot of St Niklaus across the green fields. The harvest-time shot is so familiar, it could be here in Wales, apart from the Jura mountains in the background, of course!!

  5. LOVE your shots and love the towns.
I especially love the hay bales. I found it
interesting how each country bales their hay.
    Love the green field...

  6. I always enjoy your photos of Switzerland. I am wondering where you where when you took the top photo? What a great view of the market place! The countryside photo could have been used in the green theme as well, the grass is as green as it gets I believe. I really like the corn in the foreground an mountains in the background on the last photo.

  7. Three fabulous photos, Pat. I love open air markets. We have one here at Grand Army Plaza in Brooklyn every Saturday with fresh produce, fish and bread. It's a real staple here in our community.

Solothurn is such a pretty town.

Beautiful view of Feldbrunnen. Looks so lush!

I like the last shot of the corn and hay. Except for the mountains in the background it makes me think of Jackson,GA. Sooooo homesick for Georgia!!!

  8. Congratulations on your photo being selected. It's called an Honesty Plant? I grew it once in my yard and harvested the seeds to plant them again. They did grow again.
Love your photos of Solothurn and the countryside is spectacular.

    1. I had to search in Internet for the name. I only knew the German name. you could classify it as a weed, but weeds are also pretty. They grow here every year automatically. they start in late Autumn, stay over Winter through the ice and snow, and continue again to grow when it gets warmer. The first plant to blossom.

  10. Please find me a little house with a yard to buy in your lovely spot of the world, dear Pat. It is beautiful and tranquil and I think just what I need. Lovely entries as per usual, such a beautiful country you chose to reside.

  11. The shot of Feldbrunnen really is great with the abundance of green. Looks very lush. The Rolls of hay on the freshly harvested field is a cool shot too.
