Picture This #213 ~ Views Of My Local Landscape

First of all thanks for hosting Baz and congratulations on the banner from Heidi. So now down to the work.

I have so many photos of the local sites, that it is difficult to choose. Here is one looking from the top of the hill where the local castle is towards the village of Feldbrunnen where I live. You can see the Bernese Alps far in the distance and the building on the right is the local stables where you can even learn to ride a horse. (Don't ask and the answer is NO).

Feldbrunnen

Again in the village of Feldbrunnen. Our village is situated at the end of the flat plan reaching to the Bernese Overland at the foot of the first chain of the Jura mountains. There are seven chains altogether, ending just before the town of Basel on the French/German border.

And here is the path leading to the local castle, Schloss Waldegg. It is surrounded by farm land and the background is again the Jura mountains. The avenue was newly planted about 15 years ago. The castle served for some time as the summer residence for the French Ambassador to Switzerland. It was custom that his main place was in Solothurn, the local town. Today it belongs to the Kanton, but the family von Sury lived there for many years, one of them being some sort of officer in the Vatican pope's guard.

  2. Hi Pat !! Three splendid photos of your local landscapes!! My fave shot is the first one. I love the quality of the light on the trees, with the distant Alps forming the horizon. Lovely greens in the second shot. I really like that avenue of trees in the third shot. The castle is a beautiful building, but looks more like a manor house than a traditional castle.

    1. Perhaps a small explanation. the German word "Schloss" can be translated as castle, but it is more like a stately home, chalet, residence for the nobility. We have the word "Burg" and that is more the meaning of a fortress or castle in the english meaning of the word.

  3. I am in love with your mountains. They appear in so many of your pictures and make them all the more beautiful. Your first one is so nice with the unexpected rust color in the trees. I love your middle one, and my favorite is on the bottom, with the pines, the shadows and the grand old house.

  9. Such gorgeous Landscapes, Pat! um, there MUST be a story behind the horse comment!

I love the light captured in that first photo.

    The Jura Mountains are beautiful!

Lovely path leading to the castle. The trees along the roadway must look wonderful in full foliage.
