Picture This #211 Summertime Blue

Mitch, I like your choice of an image for this week's banner. The reflection of the reeds makes a great composition. The water current created a wonderful effect on them.
When I think about the color blue associated with summertime I think of clear blue skies and the sea. Some beautiful ornamental shrubs blossom in the summer, notably the hydrangea.

I entered another photo of this boat in another challenge but this one is a closer view. We were on a seal watch tour in the inlets around Chatham. This boat approached the seals and when the skipper turned the course of the boat, most of the seals fled.

This photo was taken from my nephew's deck. It was a beautiful calm day. I love sitting here to view Long Island Sound.

I loved how this home is landscaped with all of these hydrangeas. This home is in Eastham on Cape Cod, Massachusetts.

  1. They are three beautiful photos. The first two are so wonderfully peaceful. The third is definitely my favourite. We only get blue hydrangeas here if we put iron filings into the earth.

    1. It was a wonderful experience being on that seal watch. The inlets are shallow and those seals were sitting on a sand berm. It was a calm day sitting on my nephew's deck. I admired this setting with all of these hydrangeas. Thank you.

  2. Hi Robert! Love your shots. Those are seals in the top one? Amazing and a nice little boat too. I love your nephew's deck and the way you included the white cloud in the picture. My favorite is also the hydrangea landscaping; your angle makes the picture very interesting.

    1. Hi Benni, thank you for your comments. That little puffy cloud does add to the scene. I took photos from the other side of the house but it was too bright. When I walked into the shaded area I thought that angle was more pleasing.

  3. Hi Robert!! Three good shots for this week's theme!! It would have been quite amusing to see all those seals suddenly disappear into the water, although I don't think the seals would see the funny side. Your nephew has a great view from his deck!! I love that garden in the last shot. Blue hydrangea is one of my favourite flowering bushes.

    1. I wished that I had my other camera so that my wife or daughter could have recorded the seals becoming startled. Their sudden departure made a loud noise. As for my second image, I'm going to be a spoiler by sharing with all of you the event that happened a few days after this photo was taken. We had a hurricane and there was a storm surge that flooded the area.
The blue hydrangeas were beautiful. I loved how some people know how to landscape their property.

    1. Thank you, Anders. I didn't have difficulty researching through my folders to find these subjects for the theme.

  6. Three nice blue shots, Robert! Blue sailboat, blue waters, blue sky, good three in one. Love the tranquility in the second shot and those blue hydrangeas in the third remind me of the Azores islands, where they blanket the landscape with a dense flush of blues, pinks, purples, and green...

  7. Thank you, Belita. I have seen hydrangeas in those other colors but it seemed that blue was the predominant color on the Cape. I'm pleased that you like the other photos as well.

  8. Lovely blue shots, Robert. A seal watch tour is always exciting, such a nice capture of the sail boat. A lovely view from your nephew's deck , remind me of my sister's summer house in Denmark , also right out to the water *sigh* .............

Those blue Hydrangeas looks so healthy and lovely, we have the whole driveway up the house planted with them, this year, they did not give as good a show, wonder what this lady is feeding hers on. I heard Epsom Salt in the water would give bigger heads and deeper colour??
