Picture This #212 ~ Wild Things

Many thanks to Danette for hosting this week's challenge. What a great theme she has chosen!!  I love photographing wild things, the biggest problem I had was narrowing it down to only three shots!!

1) I took this shot at Bosherston a couple of weeks ago. I think it's a variety of Horsefly. It's really difficult to sneak up on a fly to get a good macro, so I was really pleased with this one.

2) I took this shot at Montezuma's Well, Arizona, earlier this earlier this year. This small lizard was sunning himself on a rock and didn't seem too bothered by me pointing a camera at him.

3) I had to include this Emu, as I think it's hairstyle qualifies as a 'wild thing' all by itself!! LOL.

  1. Usually when I am sneaking up on a fly, the result is lethal. Great job of capturing that little buddy in magnificent detail. The lizard is very cute and there is interesting vegetation. Of course my favorite is that emu with the wild "do". That's a wonderful shot.

    1. Thanks Benni :-)) I only swat them if they're in the house. I was surprised this guy kept still and let me get so close. I hadn't noticed the Emu's 'do' until I was looking at the photos on my puter later. I'd been too busy trying to get a good shot in difficult light conditions.

    1. Thanks Danette :-)) Horseflies seem to be less bothered by movement near them than many types of fly, but even so I was surprised how close this guy let me get.

  6. wonderful wild shots as always, Mitch ........... I am nearly there with enough money for that bigger camera, cannot wait to have some zoom and macro to play with. That fly looks nearly beautiful and I feel the same way Benni does about flies "whack .......... dead" LOL

Love your Lizard and the Emu, so very cute .......... though they peck and kick as bad as our Ostrich do I believe.

Will be back now now with mine.

    1. Thanks Marianne :-)) The fly IS beautiful. It's in the eye of the beholder, of course!! LOL. The Emu looks a little confused, that's because I was imitating the sounds they make and he couldn't figure out what it was!! LOL.

I bet you're really looking forward to getting that new camera. Let us know when you have it.

  8. That is some horsefly, thinking I should really get around to buying a macro lens. The lizard is a very good shot and the bird looks almost human. I bet he is proud of his hairstyle.

    1. Thanks Pat :-)) I'm fortunate that I've never had to buy a dedicated macro lens. My Olympus SP800UZ camera has an extremely good built-in macro setting.

  9. Incredible shot of the Horsefly, which is not at all like the Horseflies in Georgia. It's an amazing shot, Mitch.

    1. Thanks Debby :-)) When I was trying to identify the fly, I was looking online and found that there are many different varieties of Horsefly. I'm still not 100% sure it is a Horsefly but it seemed to match one of the varieties.
