Picture This #214 ~ Person, Place And Thing

Thank you Debby for selecting a great theme for this week. We were in Vermont a few weeks ago and I have three photos that will suit this theme.
Our first stop in Vermont was Bennington. We parked and explored the downtown. There are statues of catamounts throughout downtown. Catamounts are mountain lions or cougars that lived in the Green Mountains. Supposedly they are extinct. These statues are painted and decorated in various themes.
Here is one of them. The scenes on this cat depict Vermont in the Autumn, a white-steepled church, and the clock which is on the main intersection of town.

We traveled to Manchester and lodged there. There is a beautiful home in town overlooking the mountains. It was the home of Robert Todd Lincoln, the only surviving son of our 16th President, Abraham Lincoln. Robert loved this area and named his estate Hildene. The family moved there in 1905 and the last surviving family member died in 1975.

We stopped at a nearby farm on our last full day in Vermont. I carried my smaller digital camera with me and took some photos inside the market. I saw a bin with beautiful green vegetables and raised my camera to compose the shot when this woman called to me and directed me to take this shot. In my conversation with he, I learned she came from my state Connecticut and moved to Vermont when she retired.

  1. Wonderful photographs, Robert! Great shot of the mountain lion- shows off the painting on it very well. I love the picture of the Hildene estate, complete with the old car in the driveway. My favorite is the lovely woman in yellow! I'm so happy she called out to you; it's a fabulous picture capturing the market, the produce and the great spirit of the person.

    1. Thanks, Benni. The paintings on the mountain lions were creatively done. It reminded me of the bull exhibit in Chicago in 1999. I think the old car boosted the photo of the estate. The woman was great. She was a lively person.

    1. I'm glad you liked the cat. The home is impressive. Couldn't take any photos indoors. All of the furnishings belonged to the family. This woman was happy. She enjoyed her job.

  3. Hi Robert!! Great to see you back taking part this week. Three really good shots for Debby's theme. I really like the statue of the mountain-lion, although it looks a bit strange with the painting down the side. Beautiful mansion-house, and also the car parked outside. The lady in the last shot looks like she really enjoys her work.

    1. I took a series of photos of the mountain lions throughout the town.
The home is beautiful. The garden is beautiful and the view is fantastic with the mountains. The car added to the photo. I'm not sure if it belonged to the last surviving family member. The lady at the farm really enjoyed her work. She hated staying home so she found a job here.
