Picture This #286 ~ Architecture

Hi all, I hope you had a wonderful week. First congrats to Belita on the header. Personally I think this is one of the best photographs I have ever seen. Well done!!

Thanks Benni for a great theme and one of my favourite areas of photography, so much so that it took me ages to weed out the shots I was not going to post!! In the end I found four and I took the liberty of adding a bonus shot simply because it was some of the most unusual architecture I had seen.

Hope you enjoy my choices, have a great weekend!!

La Rochelle Harbour Entrance

La Rochelle was founded during the 10th century and became an important harbour in the 12th century

Bridge Of Sighs
Baz2
Hertford bridge, popularly known as the Bridge Of Sighs, is a skyway joining two parts of Hertford College, over New College Lane in Oxford England. It's distinctive design makes it a city landmark.

The Bodleian Library
Baz3
The Bodleian Library is the main research library of the University Of Oxford. It is one of the oldest libraries in Europe, and in Britain is only second in size to the British Library, with over 11 million items.

  4. Hi Baz, so very sorry you are having trouble with Blogger. Having to repost 3 times is ridiculous.

I'm so glad you enjoyed the theme, your pictures are wonderful. LaRochelle is beautifully captured by you reflected in the pastel morning light and clear reflecting water. Stunning bridge, I wonder why it is called the Bridge of Sighs. Fanciful romantic name. Wonderful interior of the Oxford library, majestic. Great contrast of old and new architecture in your next shot; I can't help but prefer the old even while admiring the new. I'm so glad you put in the last shot; it is indeed unique. The statues in the archways are marvelous and the bird flying off is a nice touch.

  5. La Rochelle is very interesting, something I have never seen. I also have a photo of Southwark cathedral somewhere, but not with the shard. I saw the Bridge of Sighs many years all. All photos are very interesting.

  7. hi baz, cool pics. La rochelle is a place where I go regularly as my daughter lives not far from it. the bridge of sighs resembles the one of Venice even if a little different as there isn't any canal below

  8. Hi Baz !! I managed to fix the your post, although it obviously won't fix the continuing problems you're having with Blogger. I'll be sorry to see you go from the group, mate, as you were one of the founder members way back when. Excellent shots for the theme. Great shot of La Rochelle. Even if I didn't know where it was, I would have guessed it was in France, it has an indefinable French-ness to it. The Bridge Of Sighs and Bodleian Library are two wonderful examples of the fabulous architecture to be found in Oxford. I just love the old/new juxtaposition in the fourth shot!! The building in the final shot is quite unique.
