PICTURE THIS #216 ~ LIGHT

Wonderful theme, Benni , I can see everyone interprets it in different ways.
Light is everywhere even in the middle of the night,
there is light, if not just in the sky with moon and stars.

Congratulations to Robert, Red Christmas balls, oh gosh, not already, surely?
where has this year gone to?

I have quickly zoomed around all entries via my email notifications.
Lovely lovely images all. Would like to pop in and say hi to everyone,
if time permits

We have our grand daughter here this week and everybody is popping in non-stop to say hello, drink tea ( we work for a living and am busy , for heavens sake)
and the little one is gorgeous and I am so blessed,
so stop moaning , you silly B.....  *grins*

A lone red-winged starling singing her sad sad whistle early in the morning light.
Light1

The late afternoon sunlight shining in between the Delicious Monster leaves to light up part of the Clivia flowering. They have a fantastic show this Spring.

My old lady, Pixie, she is 12 this year, sleeping in the dish rack, her new resting place out the way of Monster Dog and Princess Mousie, close to her food bowl too and with a roller towel for a pillow, she is quite happy while the Midday Sun light shines in on her, warming her up like a toast.

Light 2

Not sure if this can count as bonus picture as I do have another one, lined up, where I need to ask a question, but I cannot decide which one to post, this one or that one or nothing, so posting anyway, so shoot me ;-)
This is the sun setting early evening, we never really have a proper sunset here on the Highveld. Here one minute gone the next. It is still only early spring, so this is about 6.00pm Light3

Then I have a question, someone else posted a picture of the Crescent Moon and Evening Star, cannot remember who, but it stuck in my head as the position of the moon and star seemed wrong from my perspective. This is how my crescent moon and evening star is positioned this week. Does it look parallel instead of vertical up north?

  1. Great photos - of course I love the one of Pixie, the light is so perfect. The clivia is wonderful, the orange colour so bright. Love the starling and the bonus pictures, am not so up with moons and stars, but the pictures are good.

    1. Thank you Pat, I knew you would like Pixie, poor ole girl *smile*

The moon and star picture was really for a question, not a good pic at all, even the new camera cannot quite capture it and as I wanted both the crescent moon and the evening star in the shot, so could not zoom in without loosing one. I wanted to know from Randall, looking at his moon and star, why they are lined up the other way around?

  2. Beautiful and serene shot of the bird.

    Exquisite flower shot.

Love the gentle ripples on the water and the "smilie" moon in the sky.

  3. Great photos, Marianne. My favorite is of Pixie. She seems content in the mid-day sun.The Clivia flower is beautiful. I was almost confused and forgot my geography for a moment. We're heading into Autumn and you're heading into Spring. I like your attempt of catching the sunset in the water's reflection. The crescent moon is interesting.

  4. So glad you took some time to post, Marianne, and you have some stunners. I love the starling and your description is like a poem. Next the magnificent Clivia, you have done well to capture the bright bright orange of that flower. Your kitty is so precious and such a nice shot. Lovely sunset on the pond - or sunrise I guess. My favorite is your moon and star with branches. That is an incredible shot. I am almost positive that the star is Venus, the brightest object (besides the moon) in the evening sky.

    1. Thank you Benni, I simply could not stay away *grins* as I had some shots all ready, that I took last week playing around with my new camera.

It is a sunset, Benni on my swimming pool, the sun goes down between the tall oaks at end of the property and I have tried for years just to catch it right, still not happy with it, but the ripples were a nice bonus as hubby dear had the pool cleaner going, waiting to see if maybe I would have the first swim of the year *winks* Not quite warm enough yet, the water that is, we have this week temps between 25 deg C and 29 yesterday , a warm very dry spring, we so need rain, we are gasping the air is so dry, the humidity is very low here on the Highveld.

  6. Hi Marianne!! A lovely selection of shots for Benni's theme. Good shot of the red-winged starling singing. The sunlight on the clivia flower is beautiful. I love the shot of Pixie sleeping in the dish-drainer. Looks like a nice comfortable bed. Wonderful colour of the water in the first bonus shot. Great shot of the crescent moon and Venus in the final shot.

  9. I love the red wing starling. I'll have to go to the Cornell Ornithology Page to here her sad whistle. I love recording birdsong with my camera. Do you do that?

The Clivia looks lovely in the sunlight. What is the Delicious Monster???

Pixie looks very comfortable in the dish rack. Beautiful lighting. She's very pretty.

The sunset on the Highveld (what a lovely poetic name), and the reflections are nice. Does that device in the foreground hold a fishing pole or a stringer?

I have a shot of the crescent moon and the evening star also. The crescent is on the right side and the star is to the right. I'll post mine on Facebook in a bit. That's a very cool shot, with the bare branches. I really like that!

    1. I have tried all the birding pages, have not found that specific sad song, they seem to call each other with in late winter early spring. Have not successfully managed to capture birdsong with camera, too much background noise, several times have tried wanting to share an early morning with you all.

  10. Yep we have just a little bit of a different angle on the moon shot. It is interesting seeing it from both spots.
