Picture This #216 ~ Light

Hi, this is Benni, your host for this week's Picture This. One of the delights of my life is playing with light in my photographs. Of course, all photos contain light and even the word photograph uses the Greek word for light.

So there are many ways to play with light: sunlight, twilight, light on water, reflected light, lamplight and so forth. These are some of my pictures in which light interacts with objects to form interesting (I hope) images. I am sure you will all have pictures which incorporate light in its many manifestations. How could you not?

Hobnail bowl c. 1930

Mulberry leaves

Gold Egyptian Cat
Light shimmering on the surface of my Egyptian gold cat. This was from the Cleopatra exhibit shown at the Field Museum in Chicago.

Congratulations, Robert, on your wonderful capture of red Christmas balls as Picture of the Week! It's a  lovely photograph and very deserving.

Great play of light and shadow in the second one. I posted something similar. Wonderful golden glow reflected from the Egyptian cat :-))

  4. The first is fantastic reflecting that wonderful pink tone. Difficult to define what shadow and what leaf is - love it. The third is a great study, so artistic.

  7. Beautiful shots, all the three are, Benni! You did an excellent finding at the flea market... I like the morning light shot, as it's a subject that is not in my folders... The golden cat is a nice piece and I love it for the role cats played in ancient Egyptian society, mythology, etc.

    1. Thank you, Belita. Morning light is generally not in my folders either, lol. The cat came with a note about their place in Egyptian society; it was so interesting. I am sure my cat would like to be treated like a queen.

  11. Hi Benni, these are three great images for your subject. You captured the light well in the first image of the bowl. Wonderful shadows of the branches and leaves of the mulberry tree. The Egyptian gold cat is beautiful in front of the window. The curator of the Field Museum knew best where to place it.
Thank you for your comment on my photo.

I love the shadowy effects of the leaves. This is one of my favorite things to play with (light/shadow) in the garden.

  14. Great theme, Benni, head ache material when first I spotted it, but had a wander around and I get it now, I hope. Will try to take part this week, have the grand daughter here, so busy busy as per usual, but stealing a bit of time now before dinner and also at lunch time, out the office. I love your captures and so many great entries too, looks like we can interrpret this many ways.
