Picture This #193 Sky

Mitch, another great choice for a theme! I had to narrow down my choices to submit this week. The sky can be so dramatic at times. Often times, the sky is neutral and it's best to avoid including the sky in a photo.

This photo was taken in Provincetown, MA. The sky was overcast with these omnious clouds. It seems that a storm was approaching.
It was sunset at First Encounter Beach on Cape Cod. The site seems to draw people to assemble and watch  the sunset.
This photo was taken in January in the late afternoon. I noticed how the clouds formed and the sun was setting lower in the sky.

  2. I have noticed that as well, people will gather to enjoy the sunset together. I like how you have captured them. I also very much like the broodiness of your first shot.

    1. It was interesting to observe how the beach became crowded as the sun went down. Thanks for your comment on the first shot. It does imply a dark tone.

  3. Hi Robert!! Three great shots for the theme. Hope you don't mind but I increased the image sizes a little so they could be seen better. I think the first shot is what's called 'the calm before the storm'. I like the second shot best. There are several places in Europe where large crowds gather to watch the sunset together, this reminded me of that. Interesting cloud formations in the last shot.

  5. Great photos, Robert. I love the first one. Great composition! I end up cropping a lot of sky out of my pics just to bring the subject in closer sometimes.

Looks like a lot of people are enjoying the sunset from that spot! Nice capture.

The last is my favorite. I don't know why. Maybe simply because I LOVE trees! The clouds in this photos reminds me of a blanket.

    1. Debby, the original image did have more sky in it. I did crop it a little. I considered cropping the sunset image too but I didn't because I wanted to show the expanse of the sky compared to the size of the people. The clouds in the last photo made the image. Thanks.

  7. All skies are fascinating. The first photo has a wonderful atmosphere. The second is a great sunset and the third has a sort of remarkable 3-D about it.

  8. A beautiful set of photos,Robert! Sunsets and sunrises are always awesome subjects but I particularly like the simplicity of the 1st and the third shots. They are truly nice!

  9. Love your photos Robert. The last one on the bottom caught my fancy because I have never seen clouds form like that. It took my eyes a minute to sort out what they were seeing too. AND, with my new glasses. LOL
